FAQ

Embrace Nursing Sweater

Q: How does the sweater fit?

A: The Embrace sweater is a fitted sweater that feels like a warm hug - it's made with 5% spandex allowing freedom of movement and less bulky material to manage.

Q: Where are the care instructions tags located?

A: Please check the inside of the sweater along the seam.

Q: What are the front pockets on the sweater used for?

A: We designed them for our custom made reusable nursing pads but you can also put our heating/cooling pack in the pockets.  It is also commonly used for a SNS (supplemental nursing system) with a tube hole on the top of both pockets.

Q: What is the extra loop on the back of the sweater for?

A: Your hair!  We designed this extra little feature in to keep your longer hair out of the way while breastfeeding your little one.  Giving you one less thing to manage and worry about while in the thick of things!

Q: What are the pockets on the back of the sweater for?

A: These pockets are designed for our custom made reusable hot/cold packs.  They also fit your cell phone while using most baby carriers.  Really you could use the pockets for tissue, lip chap, hair ties and even an extra pair of nursing pads to take if you're out on an adventure with your babe!

Q: Are the sweaters available in different colours?

A: As of right now we only offer one grey color.  Please stay tuned for our summer version with exciting new colours!  We also offer fun prints with our reusable heat/cold packs and reusable nursing pads to let your personality shine!

Hot/Cold Packs

Q: Can you throw a microwavable heating pad into the washing machine?

A: No.  It is ill advised to throw a microwavable heating pad into a washing machine without emptying the filling contents first.

If a microwavable heating pad is filled with food items such as rice, wheat, flax, etc., the foodstuffs will absorb the water in the wash along with some of the laundry detergent.

If placed in a dryer, such foodstuffs have the potential to catch on fire if subjected to intense heat.

If a microwavable heating pad is washed in a washing machine and then left to air dry, rot and spoilage can set in to the filling, causing a strong and unpleasant odor to arise when it is heated in the microwave.

Microwavable heating pads with nonperishable fillers should also not be placed into a washing machine without the contents emptied.

Q: Can you use bleach to clean the fabric of a microwaveable heating pad?

A: It is not recommended to use bleach given the natural characteristics of the fabric generally used to make a microwavable heating pad.

Bleach not only can alter the coloring of the fabric if applied, but can weaken and even break the fibers which make up the material.

Instead, gentle detergents or a paste made from half baking soda and half vinegar is recommended to help get rid of stains.

Reusable Nursing Pads

Q: What is the best way to clean the Washable Nursing Pads?

A: We recommend washing our reusable nursing pads in a mesh bag using the gentle/delicate cycle and warm water (40°C/105°F). Do not use bleach or fabric softener. Lay flat to dry

Q: How often should I change my Washable Nursing Pads?

A: The pads should be changed often to maintain skin health; a general guideline would be after each feeding or when saturated.

Q: How do I use them?

A: Simply put the pad into the pocket.  The lining of the sweater will hold it in place. We recommend changing your nursing pads frequently to maintain healthy and dry skin.

Q: Should I wash my breast pads before use?

 A: Yes.

Q: How often should I change my bamboo breast pads?

A: This really depends on how much leakage you experience and when.  For example, most mums leak more in the early days and at night when their breasts are quite full and prone to leak.  If this is you, you will need to change them frequently.  Breast pads should be changed frequently to minimize bacterial growth caused by wetness.

Q: How do I care for my bamboo breast pads?

A: Machine or hand wash with cold or warm water, ideally a day or two after use.  Warm water is best to kill any bacteria.

Do not bleach, iron or dry clean.  Do not use fabric softener as this may affect absorbency.  Line dry in the sunshine. This has the added bonus of sanitizing the fabric and keeping it bright. Ensure the pads are thoroughly dry before use.

Please take extra care when wearing jewelry, as rings and bracelets may snag the soft loops of the bamboo fabric and cause runs.

Q: Can I put my bamboo breast pads in the dryer?

A: We do not recommend this.  We recommend you line dry them in the sunshine. Lay flat to dry.

Q: Will people be able to tell I’m wearing breast pads underneath my clothes?

A: In order to provide superior moisture absorption and avoid leakage, our breast pads are multilayered.  This means they are not as slim as some disposable breast pads, but much more comfortable!  Our experience is that the breast pads are pretty discreet underneath the sweater.  Therefore, people will only know if you tell them!

Q: How absorbent are your breast pads?

A: They are pretty absorbent - however, as they are not super thick, they are best for established breastfeeding with light to moderate leakage. This means that using them in the early days of breastfeeding (when you are more fuller and more prone to leakage) you will probably need to change them more frequently. Same with overnight if your baby is sleeping long stretches and you're not feeding as often. We suggest doubling up the pads overnight to increase absorbency.
