Reusable Nursing Pads
Ensure any damp nursing pads are washed ASAP. Breast milk (while amazing!) contains a lot of bacteria so if left damp, especially during the warmer months/humid spells, there is potential for mould to grow.
Damp nursing pads should be thoroughly hand rinsed under cold/warm water to remove milk Proteins. Place rinsed breast pads into a mesh wash bag (avoid overcrowding) and into a regular cycle with a mild detergent. We then recommend line drying in a warm place.
Do not use bleach or fabric softener. Lay flat to dry
Heat Packs
Spot clean only
Microwavable heating pads can be easily spot cleaned using a little bit of dish soap, vinegar, or gentle laundry detergent.
However, when you are spot cleaning the bag of the microwavable heating pad, you have to be careful not to saturate the fabric.
If any liquid or moisture penetrates into the filling of a microwavable heating pad, especially one filled with rice, beans, or other perishable materials, then rot can set in.
When spot cleaning a microwavable heating pad, make sure that the cloth you are using is wet but not dripping with water.
Gently rub the spot that is dirty, making sure as to not rub it so much that damage occurs on the fabric.
Since microwaves vary in how quickly they heat, start with one minute and see how it feels. DO NOT overheat, you can scorch the rice. Once you know how long it takes your microwave to hear your pad you can set that time for future uses. DO NOT attempt to heat the pad in a conventional oven.
Due to the perishable nature of these items, the filling of a microwavable heating pad should NEVER get wet.
